Inauspicious gifts couples should AVOID exchanging on DIWALI

DO NOT give these gifts to each other

Diwali, the festival of lights, symbolizes joy, prosperity, and togetherness. It's a time when families and friends come together, sharing gifts and spreading happiness. However, in the realm of traditional beliefs and customs, some gifts are considered inauspicious, especially when exchanged between couples, shares Pandit Jagannath Guruji. So, this Diwali, it’s important to be mindful of certain gifts that hold symbolic meanings that may not bode well for the harmony of a relationship.

2/6

Water objects

Water, though a symbol of life and purity, bears a connotation of emotional instability in the context of gifting. Items like a fountain, fish tanks, or any water-related artifact might inadvertently bring emotional turbulence to the lives of a couple. The element of water signifies a constant flow and movement, which can be perceived as a disruptor to the stability of a relationship. It is advisable to steer clear of such gifts, as they might inadvertently introduce discord in an otherwise harmonious union.

3/6

Sharp items

Sharp objects such as knives, scissors, or any item that can potentially cause harm are to be avoided in gift-giving. These items symbolize cutting ties or severing relationships, thereby carrying negative connotations. Presenting such items to your partner during Diwali might unwittingly signify a wish for separation or discord, which is against the spirit of the festive season that celebrates love and togetherness.

4/6

Paintings

While art is a beautiful form of expression, certain paintings might carry negative energy or portray themes that are inauspicious for a couple. Depictions of solitude, sadness, war, or any artwork that evokes negative emotions should be carefully avoided as gifts. Art has a deep impact on emotions and thoughts, and it's crucial to choose pieces that radiate positivity and harmony, fostering a sense of joy and love in a relationship.

5/6

Silk cloth

Silk, often considered luxurious and beautiful, is ironically deemed inauspicious for gifting between couples. The belief suggests that gifting silk might lead to an imbalance in the relationship, potentially causing misunderstandings or discord. This is rooted in the superstition that silk could weave intricate complications into the otherwise smooth fabric of a relationship. To maintain harmony, it’s advisable to opt for other fabrics when choosing clothing or gifts for your partner.

6/6

Alcohol

Alcohol, though considered a celebratory drink in many cultures, is a gift that should be avoided between couples during Diwali. It can signify indulgence or escapism, potentially leading to the deterioration of a healthy relationship. In a festival that emphasizes clarity, light, and spiritual growth, offering alcohol as a gift might inadvertently suggest a departure from these principles.
