There are many superstitions that not just Indians but people world over believe in. But when it comes to weddings, many leave not a single stone unturned. We are ready to do anything to wish the couple good luck, a healthy life together and lots of warmth. There are some very interesting superstitions that are followed in different cultures especially on the D-day.

2/8

Not seeing each other before the wedding

This superstition originated back in the time when arranged marriages began. As per belief, if the couple saw each other before, they would have the time to change their minds about the marriage.

3/8

Raining on the day

If it rains on your wedding day, it is considered a blessing from the heavens symbolising fertility and cleansing.

4/8

Knives as gifts

Many people give the couple cutlery sets but it is said that if you are including knives in it then you must take a penny from the couple. A knife as a gift is wishing them bad luck. So an exchange of a penny would mean they have bought it themself.

5/8

Carrying the bride

In many traditions you may have noticed that the bride is carried by the groom in his arms when crossing the threshold of the house. This tradition is practiced because as per beliefs, brides are very vulnerable to evil spirits especially when they set their feet down on the earth while crossing a threshold.

6/8

The crying

After the wedding, brides cry because they are parting ways from their parents and the life that they had as their kid, but actually, the crying is a tradition counted as good luck for the bride. It symbolizes that the bride is shedding all the tears in that moment and thereafter she will not have to shed any.

7/8

Putting sugar cube in the gloves

In a Christian wedding where brides wear gloves, it is considered to be an important tradition where the bride is supposed to put a sugar cube in the gloves. According to the Greeks, that sugar will sweeten the couple’s life together.

8/8

Pinching the bride

As per Egyptian culture, the women pinch the bride on her wedding day for good luck.
