Royal wedding soon: Prince Harry and William’s cousin Lady Marina Windsor gets engaged to Nico Macauley

On Sunday, June 8, Lady Marina Windsor, granddaughter of the Duke and Duchess of Kent and third cousin to Prince William and Prince Harry, announced her engagement to longtime boyfriend Nico Macauley. The news took royal watchers by surprise—not because it was unwelcome, but because it had been a while since the British royal family served up a proper engagement glow.

“Very happy! ,” Lady Marina, 32, captioned an Instagram carousel that showed off her new engagement ring. The ring features a princess-cut stone—believed to be either onyx or deep garnet—set with a diamond halo. In two selfies, Lady Marina holds her hand to the camera, her new fiancé Nico smiling beside her.

Though not frequently seen together at royal events, Nico Macauley is no stranger to Lady Marina’s Instagram. A quick scroll reveals glimpses of their low-key yet close relationship, often set against art galleries, countryside walks, and charity events. Macauley, a Newcastle University graduate, currently works as an account executive at the cloud security firm Zscaler, according to his LinkedIn profile. Lady Marina serves as a philanthropic executive at The Big Give, a UK-based charity platform.


Her sister, model Lady Amelia Windsor, was one of the first to celebrate publicly, commenting, “Yippeeee!” Meanwhile, their brother Edward Windsor, Lord Downpatrick, offered his own cheeky congratulations, writing, “So the hazing begins.”

The excitement didn’t stop there. Royal cousins chimed in with messages of love and celebration. Zenouska Mowatt wrote, “Love youuuuuu my babes,” while Flora Vesterberg added, “Love you! Happiest news xx.”

Though she once held a place in the line of succession to the British throne, Lady Marina officially gave that up in 2008. Her decision came after she was confirmed into the Catholic Church—a move that, at the time, automatically excluded her from succession under the rules of the Act of Settlement 1701. Prior to her confirmation, she had been 25th in line.


Lady Marina is one of the more private figures among the extended Windsor clan, but her engagement announcement has brought her—and her distinctive sense of style and modern grace—into the spotlight once again.
