Signs that you are being used in your relationship

1/6

Are you being used in your relationship?

In the context of relationships, sometimes you realise or know it deep down that something is wrong, you are unhappy, and you are probably being used. This feeling makes you insecure and no one likes being used for the other’s benefits only. You also feel that you may be discarded by the other when his or her need is over. So to save yourself from such a relationship, here are a few tell-tale signs you must read into.

2/6

You are the one who pays every time

No matter what, at the end of a lovely lunch, dinner, high tea, shopping etc, you are the one who ends up paying the bills. Or he or she is paying the small amounts but you have to give the big ones. This is a major sign that you are being used unless you have had a discussion over this before. Make sure you go dutch. Just once try saying that you cannot pay the bill and observe his or her reaction. It will tell you that you are being used or not. It is not about money in this situation but it also shows the person’s upbringing and personal values.

3/6

The one sided conversations

A monologue is sometimes fine, someone talking about him or herself is okay when done a few times. However, if most conversations start with them and end with them and what you have to say is not part of the conversation, or is conveniently brushed aside, you are being used.

4/6

You end up being the rescuer

Not once or twice but every time, you coming to the rescue of the other and the other making excuses to do so is a sign that you need to get out of this one way traffic relationship. You must feel cared for and someone showing concern for you too.

5/6

The words “thank you” does not exist

No matter what you do, cooking, cleaning, taking the kids to some place, attending to their parents, you never get any appreciation. This is very toxic for any relationship. A little bit of gratitude from both individuals is very important. No one is entitled to do another's job. A thank you every other day makes a big difference.

6/6

Your emotional needs are never met

In a relationship, the two individuals are meant to automatically pay heed to the other’s emotional needs every now and then. However, if this is not the case and only you are doing it but the other is always absent when you just need a hug or a shoulder to cry on, or just to talk to someone then you know your relationship is not the right one.
