Successful marriage needs adjustments

Marriage is a union where two individuals agree to enter after much thought and deliberation. Fleeting moments of love don't lead to such a lifelong commitment. Since marriage comes with a fair share of responsibilities it's something that an individual puts in a lot of thought before committing to it. After commitment, one does everything possible in their capacity to make a marriage work. Adjustments and comprises have to be made by both the people but, if the burden falls on only one person the marriage falters. Here are some unspoken rules one must follow after marriage.

2/4

Don't be over-critical of your partner's parents

Whenever you want to point out a mistake of your partner's parents remember how you would feel if someone spoke ill of your parents, now apply the same principle to your partner. While it's vital to communicate what you are feeling instead of building up resentments, how you communicate it is also equally important. Words have power and if you express your feelings in a positive manner the chances of resolving your issues increase but if you express the same in a negative manner it's quite possible that the situation can suddenly escalate into a fight.

3/4

Choose your battles wisely

It's not wise to pick up a fight for every petty issue. It will give off an image that you have a very conflict-creating nature. Instead, be wise and choose what are the issues where you absolutely draw a red line and stick up to them, they are those issues that are so vital to you and your self-respect that not having such issues in order will affect your personal interest most. Make sure they are not flimsy issues that you can easily live without. It does not mean you have to quietly sit and never raise an issue until it becomes absolutely important you can always communicate with your partner if there is an issue that needs to be addressed.

4/4

 Understand your partner's attachment style

Discovering their attachment styles early on in marriage can transform your relationship. Some people thrive on nearness, while others need alone time to recharge. These differences if not understood can lead to misunderstandings and insecurities, but if you are aware of these things and understand each other's needs, they can bring you closer. Every couple is unique and has different conflict resolution styles, but what you need to learn is to respect each other's needs. Most importantly, embrace open and honest communication, making decisions as a team. You are not just life partners; but best friends ready to take on the world together, united by a deep understanding of each other's attachment styles and unwavering love.
