Facts you may not know about stray dogs

Genuine dog lovers have no issues with any kind of dog. They play with street dogs as much as they would with homely, expensive breeds. However, there is a major issue in our country when it comes to adopting dogs. Here are 7 facts about stray dogs which many do not know. Scroll down to understand what all needs to be considered when it comes to stray dogs.

2/7

Population

In India, there are more than 35 million stray dogs which is why it is important to get them all sterilized and make use of animal birth control programs which are run by the government. The lesser the number, the more we can care for these dogs.

3/7

Weight

The average male dog weighs 15 to 35 kg and female weighs 15 to 25 kg and the same goes with their height. Male dogs are taller than females.

4/7

The notched ears

To identify whether the dog is sterilized stray or not, notice the ears. They will have a cut on their ears. So when you approach them to feed those yummy dog biscuits, keep an eye on their ears.

5/7

They are healthier than many other breeds

Indian stray dogs are tough pups. They can brave the harsh climate of our country and they do not fall sick so easily. So if you want to adopt one then this is one aspect you do not have to worry about.

6/7

Easy to train

This is a major myth in India that Indian stray dogs are difficult to train. It is in fact quite the opposite. Stray dogs are very smart and they learn commands like all other dog breeds. They can survive with very little human support.

7/7

Food habits

Stray dogs can eat almost anything and everything. They are all about survival so they are rarely picky eaters.
