Over the past few years, many people have started adopting Indian strays as their pets and this has come as a welcome reminder that every animal deserves love. Indian dog breeds are one of the most overlooked breeds in the world, as a large percentage of people tend to go for foreign dog breeds as their pets. But it’s quite refreshing to often see celebrities hyping up Indian dogs as recently, actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu took to Instagram to share her love for an Indian dog. She captioned the series of photos with, “Supermodel feels #chippiparai #whatabeauty” Let’s have a look at some of the Indian dog breeds that are favourites with everyone.

Indian pariah dog

They are popularly known as ‘desi dogs’ and are very social dogs. They can be easily found roaming the streets of India. They are very adaptable and alert. They are mostly street dogs and are also extremely friendly.

Combai

These dogs are known to be extremely aggressive, but they are loyal dogs which makes them an excellent choice for families who want a protective dog. They are usually found in the Western Ghats of South India.

Kanni

They are known for agility, speed and hunting ways. They are popularly also known as hunting or coursing dogs, who rely on their senses to hunt their prey. They are usually found in Tamil Nadu.

Rajapalayam

They are usually found in South India, specifically in Tamil Nadu. They are known as royal dogs because they were associated with royalty and aristocracy back in the eras of kings and queens.

Mudhol Hound

They are known for their hunting skills and are also excellent guard dogs. They are famously known for their sharpness and agility. They are usually found in the Mudhol city of Karnataka.
