Revealed: The soft skills you need to become a millionaire (and a better person!)

Contrary to what people believe, success is not measured through one parameter, and could hold different connotations for different people. A lot of us think that simply mastering a set of skills by going to a prestigious school or college is enough to help us gather success (and money) in the long-term, but this is not the case. Apart from what you learn in school, college or even at work (known as hard skills), there are many soft skills that one needs to master, in order to be truly successful in life. Mastering these will not only make you shine at the workplace, but will also help in interpersonal relationships... Here they are...

2/10

Negotiation skills

This will help you in staying confident, holding your ground, and getting the best out of a deal, apart from increasing your income and being more heard at work. One can build on this by learning to listen more intuitively, both at work and at home. One should also stay confident in their interaction with others.

3/10

Financial knowledge

This one is no brainer. It will help you plan your finances, run your house more effectively, and help you gauge at what age you can retire, while all along prodding you to keep building wealth . For this, one should learn about budgeting, investing wisely (and most importantly timely), and keep a look-out for new market trends in the financial space.

4/10

Communication skills

Just being good at your job is not enough. You need to present yourself well, and with enough confidence, so that people sit up and take notice. Building on communication skills will also help you manage things more effectively at home. For this, practice public speaking, socialise more, and take up challenges at work that require inter departmental communication.

5/10

Leadership streak

Even if you are not a leader right now, practicing leadership will make you indispensable at work, and even at home. For this, learn to take up initiatives that go beyond your KRA, display quick decision making abilities, and inspire others. This will also help you effectively set up your business, if you want, one day.

6/10

Self-discipline

This helps you avoid unnecessary conflict, and drama. This is also important to help you stay away from all sorts of distractions, and stay focused at work, or at home, depending on your priority at that point of time. The way to do this is to start practicing mindfulness, taking out time for specific activities, and following a time table for the tasks at hand.

7/10

Creativity

Being creative and innovative will not only get you more laurels at work, but will also earn you praise at home, for being more involved. For this, you need to experiment through trial and error, and challenge regular thinking, by moving out of the box. This will help you to stay ahead in the competition, and take challenges head on.

8/10

Staying adaptable

Staying adaptable is a game changer in the long run. One should always be open to change, whether it is a physical one, or an emotional one. By constantly learning and unlearning new skills, and breaking old patterns, you will be able to drive unique ideas that will eventually bring you great success.

9/10

Time management

This one is a no-brainer. Managing your time effectively is one of the keys to growth, both at work and at home. To master this, stick to a schedule that includes time for both work and leisure. Do not overlap these aspects of your life with each other, and learn to cut off when needed. Prioritise what is important, and that will help you maximise your productivity on all fronts.

10/10

Emotional intelligence

Cultivating enough emotional intelligence helps you manage stress better, that in turn, can help you carry out all your tasks more effectively. To master this, practice self-awareness, befriend people from all walks of life, read as much as you can, travel, and learn to actively listen.
