8 rules that Elon Musk's employees follow for success

Workplace rules are a must-have. The rules help in maintaining a healthy and professional work environment. However, few rules should be followed diligently and few that be cut loose sometimes. A company’s success depends on its work environment, as we can see for Tesla. Elon Musk, 49, who is a definition of new and advanced technology, has made what few dream off. The CEO of SpaceX and chief- architect of Tesla have surely done something extraordinary to make success this huge.

Elon Musk doesn’t believe in communication hierarchy if the task can be solved with common sense. Instead, he expects his employees to be present and observe as they work themselves towards success. Here are eight rules that Elon Musk expects his employees to follow-

2/9

Long meetings waste employee’s time

In an email in 2018, Musk suggested that hour-long meetings can waste people’s time. These meetings with large formats in a vast company can take the shape of boring meetings very soon. Short, frequent meetings are a go-to in giant firms, as they provide the value of time for the people attending them.

3/9

Frequent meetings alter the workflow.

Having frequent meetings can alter the workflow and rhythm. Musk spoke to the employees for having infrequent meetings unless the issue is urgent and unsolvable. Once the problem is solved, the meeting format should go back to being infrequent.

4/9

Walking out isn’t rude anymore; leave if you aren’t required.

He also mentioned in the email that they should leave if someone isn’t required in the meeting. If the focus shifts to other issues and you aren’t needed there in any case, you should return to your work desk. He suggested that it is not rude to leave but to make someone stay even if they aren’t required.

5/9

Simple words, good communication.

Use general words and sentences in order to ensure a smooth flow of communication. No one carries a glossary list or dictionary all day; avoid using confusing and technical words just because you work in a high-end firm.

6/9

Efficiency is the focus.

Musk claimed in the internal letter that the fastest and shortest way of communication should be applied. Anyone who enforces someone to use the chain of command, and in turn, hamper the work will not be entertained.

7/9

Communicate freely through all departments.

A free flow of communication and information among all the levels at a company provides productivity. Although there are always few issues with communication between departments, having a free flow of communication will help solve it.

8/9

Use your instincts and don’t follow silly rules.

Always follow your common sense to get the work done efficiently. If some particular office rule is holding you to do your job more efficiently, use your common sense and increase productivity, he claimed.

9/9

Leaking information isn’t acceptable.

Musk asserted that anyone who leaks confidential information to the press or media would be dealt with ruthlessly. As a part of the company, be it, employee or shareholder, everyone has a responsibility and ethics.
