1/7

Before you quit your job

Sometimes, quitting a job becomes more of a necessity than an option. Under certain unexplainable circumstances, an employee might have to resign from the job without thinking much. But after putting down the papers, it’s important to follow a few things to ensure that everything goes well. So, here’s what needs to be done:

2/7

Remove all personal data from the official laptop

Be it movies or pictures, we are all guilty of saving personal stuff in our official laptop. When we quit a job in a hurry, these things might skip our notice. So, it’s important to remove personal documents and data from the laptop or any other devices provided by the office.

3/7

Check with a trusted colleague for reference

When we apply for a new job and clear the initial interviews, most prospective employers ask for references from people we had worked in the past. So, it’s important that you talk about this to a few colleagues whom you trust and are sure that they would give a good reference.

4/7

Documents from the HR

When you leave your job in a hurry, first make sure that you collect all the important documents from the HR before or on your last day at the organisation. These may include your pay slips of almost a year (just to be on the safe side), your releasing letter, documents supporting any variable pay which might help you negotiate your salary in a new organisation, etc.

5/7

Don’t go out in a blaze of fury

Whatever the reason might be for quitting a job, you should not leave the current organisation in a bad note. Even if there are reasons for you to be angry at someone or something, it very necessary to act in a professional way. If there is an exit interview, you can share your inputs and express your views about issues you think can be improved. But avoid any accusatory tone while doing so.

6/7

Move your money from bank accounts opened under office address

In a lot of organisations, employees have to open new bank accounts for salary deposition. When you leave your job, it will be wise to move your money from an account which was opened under the office address.

7/7

Plan the handover of duties to a successor

Ideally, handover of duties to a successor should be done while serving the notice period but in case, you are yet to meet your successor, make sure that you handover your projects or responsibilities to someone properly before leaving the office.
