Hiring and employment trends for 2020

Thanks to technological advancements and the growing influence of social media, these two factors had helped modern workplace culture and hiring process to evolve. And there are high chances that the influence of these two factors would only grow stronger in 2020. Workplace hiring and employment choices have undergone tremendous transformation in the last decade and it will continue doing so in the coming years too. According to a recent study, the attrition rate has peaked beyond 22 per cent in last year and that is one of the reasons why most companies would be concentrating more on ‘attracting the right talent’ rather than just hiring people with qualifications. To help people understand the job market better, we have compiled a list of meaningful insights on hiring and employment trends that are likely to dominate the job market in 2020.

2/6

Social media hiring

We cannot stress enough on how important it is to use the right social media platforms for professional purposes. We already know about LinkedIn, an employment-oriented service and social media platform that operates via websites and mobile apps, and how it has grown into a leading reference point for both recruiters and job seekers. Moreover, other social media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter etc. are excellent platforms to gather information about candidates and recruiters have used these in the past to do the same. A word of advice: Keep your profession-related information updated on your profile and stay away from posting controversial posts.

3/6

Candidates with multiple skill-sets will be preferred

The only constant in life is change. Only a person who can adapt well to the changes can survive—and this is what the recruitment scene in 2020 would look like. Instead of focusing on a candidate with limited sets of skills, employers would focus more on job seekers with multiple skill sets who would be able to handle changing demands of the job and adapt well to all situations. So, while you are looking for a job, you should also enrol for courses or training to learn new skills.

4/6

Work-from-home

According to a report published in the Harvard Business Review, employees ranked commuting as more stressful than their jobs. No wonder, a lot of job seekers now look for work-from-home opportunities and it is expected that 2020 will be the year that will start the trend of remote working because a lot of studies have proved that flexible working helps people to have work-life balance and manage stress better.

5/6

More contractual jobs

What people couldn’t stop talking about in 2019 was the recession. There is no denying the fact that workplace expenses will only increase in the future since it includes more than just expenses related employees (real estate, facility management, health insurance, etc.) To keep the growing workplace expenses under check, companies might be driven to hire more contractual workforce than full-time employees.

6/6

Other benefits will be given more importance than pay

We have read a lot about how important it is to have work-life balance, job satisfaction and how happy employees perform better than those who aren’t. It’s true that having a desirable paycheck is matters the most but at the same time, there is a growing trend where for some employees money might not be the biggest incentive. This year, the focus would be more on other benefits like health insurance, work-from-home opportunities, personal loans, etc.
