Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga
Set in the heart of Srisailam, the Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. Legend has it that Lord Shiva manifested here to pacify his son, Kartikeya. As per Hindu scriptures, Kartikeya, the elder son of Parvati and Shiva, chose Mount Krauncha as his residence after being saddened by some misunderstanding. This is the reason, his parents, Shiva and Parvati decided never to leave Srisailam. The Jyotirlinga here is said to have a special energy and devotees believe that visiting Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga absolves one of past karmas and brings liberation.
The Bhramaramba Shakti Peeth
Set right beside the Jyotirlinga is the Bhramaramba Devi Temple, which is among the Maha Shakti Peethas. As per mythology, Sati’s neck fell here in Srisailam and the goddess is worshipped in the form of Bhramaramba, meaning the bee-goddess. The Shakti Peeth also represents the fierce form of the Goddess. The place is visited by thousands of devotees who come here to receive protection from negative energies and unexplained things.
