Why hanging a Dreamcatcher is believed to attract good luck

Not sure what souvenir to grab after your mountain trip or what to gift your friend for their birthday? When hunting for something thoughtful feels like a task, there's one little magical item that's been stealing the spotlight lately—a wall hanging that promises good vibes and catches your bad dreams, letting only the good ones pass. If Pinteresty room decor is your thing, you’ve probably already got it: dreamcatchers—a pretty decoration item known for its dream-filtering charm. But have you ever thought about how a wall hanging can catch good dreams on your behalf? Is it just a marketing gimmick, or is there a story carrying deeper meaning that makes it far more meaningful than just looking pretty?

Why does Dreamcatcher bring comfort?

Often while buying Dreamcatchers, people convince themselves with reasoning like how it offers emotional comfort. Many people say having one near their bed or meditation space gives them a sense of peace. In a time where mental wellness and sleep hygiene are gaining significant importance, dreamcatchers are being used as visual representatives for calmness, positivity, and intention. It is commonly gifted as tokens of protection and good luck, making them more than just a wall hanging.

Spiritual Significance

Today, what is found at roadside shops with a label of ‘good luck’ owes its roots to two native tribes from North America, both having their own independent versions. Traditionally, these dreamcatchers were crafted by hand using natural materials—wooden hoops from willow branches, sinew, and feathers. According to Ojibwe legends, what gains popularity today as a ‘room decoration item’ is actually associated with a mythological figure known among the Ojibwe tribe: Asibikaashi, or “the Spider Woman.” She was believed to be a protector of the people belonging to the tribe, and slowly the dreamcatcher’s structure became a symbolic representation of Asibikaashi.

What the design signifies:

Dreamcatchers typically include the circle-shaped hoop, the web and feathers. Now your aesthetically pleasing dreamcatcher with colourful beads ,stones and gems are modern day additions to make it look more attractive. If someone takes a close look, the layering of the web ( mostly wrapped around 7-8 points of the whoop) leaves a small hole in the middle as it is believed that this structure allows good dreams to pass through while the web catches the bad dreams.
The round hoop refers to the circle of life. Whereas by now you already know what work the Web has . It is used to catch bad dreams and protect the sleeping-soul. Regarding the feathers, some people believe that it is used as a ladder for the good dreams to follow to the dreamer’s mind and the multiple beads on the web represents the bad dreams that have been caught.
