Soccer legend Pele, the only player to win three World Cups, died on Thursday in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He was 82. Former Captain of Indian Football Team Bhaichung Bhutia is deeply saddened by the news of his demise. Reminiscing about his two meetings with Pele, Bhaichung shared, “I have met him twice in my life. I also had the privilege to interview him once at a media summit in Delhi. To me, Pele was the greatest footballer in the world and also the king of football. We grew up hearing his name. Back in our time, every good player was referred to as ‘Pele’ – such was the popularity the stalwart enjoyed. As a human being, he was very humble and a gentleman to the core. He also gave me an autographed Brazil jersey, which is one of my most cherished possessions.”
