City to host Saras painting workshop inspired by veteran artist KG Subramanyan
In an effort to revive the age-old tradition of Saras or earthen plate painting, KCC is gearing up to host a workshop in the city this month. The workshop aims to bring together painting enthusiasts around the city to explore the intricacies of Saras painting.
Led by a conservation material expert from the KCC Conservation Lab, the workshop will provide participants with hands-on experience and insights into preserving the essence of Saras painting. Art Historian and Pedagogue, Soumik Nandy Majumdar, will deliver a detailed introduction to Saras painting, as envisioned by veteran artist KG Subramanyan.Notable figures in the field, including award-winning artists, theatre designers, calligraphers, and art historians, will facilitate the sessions. Participants can expect to gain a deeper understanding of the historical and cultural significance of Saras painting. At the end of the session, they will have the opportunity to publicly display their painted Saras creations, accompanied by an illustrated lecture on the subject by Soumik Nandy Majumdar.
