Mother's Day Special: Queenie Singh and Tiara Dhody on jewellery, motherhood and building dreams together
For jewellery designer Tiara Dhody, creativity was never something she consciously learnt — it was something she grew up living every day with her mother, Queenie Singh. This Mother’s Day, the mother-daughter duo stand as a beautiful example of how legacy can evolve across generations, with Queenie’s glamorous world of fine jewellery, Jewels by Queenie, inspiring Tiara to build her own distinct voice in the luxury space through Treasures by Tiara. While Queenie established herself with timeless sophistication, Tiara has brought in a younger, expressive aesthetic that blends emotion, storytelling and modern femininity.
Reflecting on growing up with Queenie, Tiara shares that what stayed with her most was not lessons in confidence, but the freedom to express herself creatively. “As kids, we were constantly putting on little skits and performances for our parents, just trying to make them laugh and have a good time. Looking back, I think that playful side stayed with me and naturally became a part of how I create today,” she says, adding that watching her mother balance beauty, ambition and family life was deeply inspiring.
Beyond the glamour, Tiara says it was Queenie’s quiet, unwavering support that shaped her the most. From waking up at 4 am before exams to study with her daughter, to continuing to fly down to Mumbai almost every month despite living in London, Queenie remained a constant source of emotional strength. “She’s been my backbone, my provider, and my constant source of security,” Tiara says.
Queenie admits that seeing Tiara evolve into an independent entrepreneur has been one of her proudest moments as a mother. “I am proud of my daughter, Tiara. Not only have I seen her evolve into this beautiful young woman, but I’ve also watched her turn her dreams and vision into something truly tangible. Everything in the café was done by her — right down to the finish on the walls. It was entirely her vision, her dream, and her passion,” she shares, as they launch their first concept store at Pedder Road, which also includes the Treasures Cafe.
That emotional connection also reflects in Tiara’s work as a designer. She explains that her jewellery has never been about creating something “manufactured or soulless,” but pieces that feel expressive and alive. “I want them to feel luxurious not just in material, but in feeling. I believe when something is created with conviction and a clear point of view, it naturally finds the people it’s meant for,” she says.
