5 must-visit iconic temples in Vrindavan: A spiritual journey

Vrindavan is a place that needs no introduction. This pretty small town in Uttar Pradesh is noted for its legendary and mythological tales associated with Lord Krishna. This town is a spiritual hub for devotees of Krishna who visit here throughout the year. From sacred ghats and ancient temples, Vrindavan attracts millions of visitors every year. Vrindavan has memories from Lord Krishna’s childhood, making it an important pilgrimage site for Hindus. Among the many sacred places to visit in Vrindavan, there are five temples that stand out for their history, architectural beauty, and spiritual importance.
Let’s have a look:

2/6

Banke Bihari Temple, Vrindavan

Banke Bihari Temple is among the most prominent temples to visit in Vrindavan. The temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna who is worshipped here in the form of his childhood incarnation. The black-coloured statue of Radha Krishna at this temple is depicted in a unique pose, where he bends slightly to one side, resembling the way he would often play the flute. It’s a sight to behold and people once inside go into a deep spiritual coma looking at the lord.

One of the unique practices here is that the temple pandits hold curtains open for just a few seconds so that devotees don’t keep looking at the idol for a long time as they believe in evil eyes!

3/6

Nidhivan

It is one of the most unique and mystical spots in Vrindavan! The place is noted for its association with the divine pastimes of Lord Krishna. It is believed to be the place where Lord Krishna used to perform his Raas Leela (divine dance) with Radha and over a thousand Gopis during his childhood.

The temple here is dedicated to the deity of Lord Krishna, but the main attraction is the surrounding grove, which is believed to be magical. As per local legend, the trees in Nidhivan are believed to be Gopis who were transformed into trees after witnessing the divine dance of Krishna.

4/6

Prem Mandir

Prem Mandir, also known as the "Temple of Divine Love," is a newly-built temple in Vrindavan. Built by Jagadguru Kripaluji Maharaj in 2001, it is a beautiful marble temple that showcases the eternal love between Radha and Krishna. The temple is an architectural wonder! The temple’s light and sound show is quite famous.

5/6

ISKCON Temple (Sri Krishna-Balaram Mandir)

The ISKCON Temple, also known as the Sri Krishna-Balaram Mandir, is among the most famous temples in Vrindavan. Set on the banks of the Yamuna, this temple is part of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) movement, founded by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. The temple houses the deities of Krishna and his elder brother, Balaram.

6/6

Radha Raman Temple

Radha Raman Temple was built during the 16th century by Gopala Bhatta Goswami, making it among the oldest temples in Vrindavan. The temple is dedicated to Radha Raman, a deity of Lord Krishna. The idol of Radha Raman is believed to have been personally worshipped by Gopala Bhatta Goswami.
