5 Small Countries That Travellers Can See in Just One Day!

If you are short of time but wish to experience something offbeat in terms of travel, then one must go to these of the world's smallest nations, also referred to as 'micro-countries' because they are so minute in size that one can cover them within a day. One should not assume that because it is a small nation, there is nothing much to see. All the countries have their own rich culture and special places of interest one has to see.

Let's consider some micro-states of the world that you can easily visit in a day:

2/6

Monaco

This is also known as the Principality of Monaco, which is an independent city-state situated on the French Riviera in Western Europe. It is the second smallest country in the world. There are plenty of places to visit which can be done in a day like Monte Carlo Casino, a globally renowned casino, the Prince's Palace, the official palace of the ruling family, and the Oceanographic Museum, Exotic Garden, and Larvotto Beach. You may also dine in some well-known restaurants here like Café de Paris Monte-Carlo for fine dining, where the food is quite pricey, and also in the local bistros around Monaco-Ville. The price to see the museums and palaces is about €28 per person for adults.

3/6

Nauru

This is an island nation in Micronesia, Central Pacific, and also the third smallest nation on earth, both by area and population. This is also referred to as Pleasant Island. It is possible to walk or cycle around the whole island circuit in 5–6 hours and additionally to go to the Buada Lagoon, a freshwater lake here, Command Ridge, and Anibare Bay. You can visit some well-known restaurants here like the Bay Restaurant, Anibare Boat Harbour Restaurant, and Golden Bridge Restaurant.

4/6

Vatican City

This nation is the smallest state in the world by both area and population. One can visit the top sights of this nation in a single day like St. Peter's Basilica, a work of Renaissance architecture, St. Peter's Square, the Sistine Chapel, and Vatican Museums. It is such a tiny place that one can go from one point to another in less than an hour. One can begin early to avoid the crowd and reach the opening hour of the sites mentioned. You can go for dining to nearby Borgo Pio, which has Italian restaurants and cafes along with Café Vaticano within the Vatican Museum for fast food. The cost of entry to Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel is approximately €39, but there is no cost for entry into St. Peter's Basilica.

5/6

Liechtenstein

This nation is located in Central Europe, and being a small nation, it is easily covered within a day. Vaduz, the capital city and cultural hub, can be explored where you can go to see Vaduz Castle, Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, and St. Florin Cathedral with outstanding history and architecture. In Schaan, one can visit the local shops and cafes as well as visit Ruggell, which has beautiful natural beauty and walking trails. One can dine at the local restaurants here which offer delicious Liechtenstein and Swiss cuisine as well as at Torkel, Weinlaube, and Marée.

6/6

San Marino

This is a landlocked country in Southern Europe and is surrounded by Italy. This is the fifth smallest country in the world. This is a historic capital that is recognized for its well-preserved medieval old town that houses popular landmarks such as the Three Towers of San Marino, the Basilica di San Marino, and Palazzo Pubblico (the town hall) that can be easily explored in a day. This destination is predominantly renowned for its cultural heritage, historic places, and also possesses scenic views. Basilica di San Marino and Palazzo Pubblico have free admission to all. Ristorante Righi, Ritrovo dei Lavoratori, and Smaller are some well-known restaurants with mouthwatering food.
