7 beautiful spots around Manali waiting to be explored

Manali, the beautiful hill town in Himachal Pradesh, is a paradise for nature lovers, adventure seekers, and cultural enthusiasts alike. The place is all about snow-capped mountains, lush green valleys, great food options, and rich history. Manali is surrounded by beautiful places that feel nothing less than paradise and are worth exploring.

Here is a list of seven must-visit places near Manali offering a perfect mix of scenic beauty, serene vibes, and tranquil mountains

2/8

Bhrigu Lake

Bhrigu Lake at an altitude of 4,300 meters is a high-altitude glacial lake in the Kullu district. This lake is no less than heaven as it provides panoramic views of the snow-capped mountains. The entire region is known for its crystal-clear, glacial waters even in summers. It is also considered sacred in Hindu mythology as this is where Rishi Bhrigu used to meditate. Ideal for a short multi-day hike, this destination offers an unforgettable adventure into Himachal’s pristine landscape.

3/8

Rahala waterfalls

About 16 km away from Manali, Rahala is a lesser-known beautiful waterfall which is a result of melting glaciers. Set at a height of 8,500 ft, the waterfall is set amidst the dense forest of deodar and silver birch trees. It's a great spot for photography, family picnics, and soaking in the raw beauty of the Himalayas. The air surrounding this place is fresh and rejoicing, offering escape from city life. A visit here adds a delightful touch of nature to your Manali itinerary.

4/8

Nehru Kund

Nehru Kund is situated along the Manali-Leh highway and is some 6 km from Manali. This is a natural spring named after Pandit Nehru, India’s first Prime Minister. The water in the Nehru Kund is naturally sourced from the Bhrigu Lake. It is a serene and lesser-known stop where travellers can pause, relax and enjoy the peaceful environment and fresh mountain breeze. Visitors can also explore the kund while heading towards Rohtang Pass.

5/8

Naggar Castle

Naggar Castle is an extraordinary wooden castle built by Raja Sidh Singh of Kullu in 1460 AD. Today the castle is owned by the Himachal Tourism Board and is located about 22 km from Manali. This ancient wooden and stone castle offers a glimpse into the traditional Himachali architecture with its intricate carvings and artistic blend of European and Himalayan styles. It also offers spectacular views of the Kullu Valley. The castle is also the home to various ancient temples such as Guari Shankar Temple, Tripura Sundari Temple, and Murlidhar Temple.

6/8

Jagatsukh

Formerly the capital of the Kullu kingdom, Jagatsukh is a quaint town about 6 kilometers from Manali. For travelers seeking peace and cultural richness, Jagatsukh is the ideal place. It is famous for its peaceful atmosphere and ancient temples, including the Shiva Temple built in the Shikhara style. With apple orchards, mountain fields, and snow-covered mountains all around, the town is the perfect destination for relaxed touring and contemplation. It is also the starting point for the Deo Tibba trek.

7/8

Malana

Malana is another gem of a place ideal for serenity seekers. This remote and historic village is around 65 kilometers from Manali. Not many must be aware of the fact that this place is also regarded as one of the oldest democracies in the world. Set amidst the majestic hills of the Parvati Valley, Malana is renowned for its unique customs, culture, and mysterious native tongue. The hamlet stands apart from the rest of Himachal due to its own identity and rigid social standards.

8/8

Van Vihar National Park

Set in the heart of Manali, Van Vihar National Park is a well-maintained municipal lawn. This peaceful green oasis, along the Beas River, is perfect for a relaxing stroll, birdwatching, or a quiet afternoon in the outdoors. There are numerous shaded benches, walkways paved with stone, deodar trees, and a small lake with paddle boats where visitors can enjoy boating. It is also popular among couples and families who desire to unwind without having to travel too far.
