From Ranthambhore’s Riddhi to Satpura’s Rudra: Famous tigers in Indian wildlife sanctuaries

India is a beautiful country brimming with interesting wildlife sanctuaries which are home to one of the most majestic creatures that walk on Earth, the Royal Bengal Tiger. These creatures are not only India's national animal but are also a symbol of strength. And there are some tigers that have legendary status, drawing tourists and wildlife lovers from across the globe.
From the graceful Riddhi of Ranthambhore to the mysterious Rudra of Satpura, these iconic big cats are the kings and queens of their jungles. Let’s have a look at some of the famous tigers in India:

2/6

Riddhi, Ranthambhore (Rajasthan)

The current 'Queen of Ranthambhore', Riddi lives in Ranthambhore National Park. The park has long been known for legendary tigers like Machli, but Riddhi is the new queen here. She is the daughter of the famous Arrowhead (T-84) and has inherited her mother’s beauty. She is known for her bold behavior and frequent sightings and is a favorite among wildlife photographers.

3/6

Rudra, Satpura (Madhya Pradesh)

Rudra, meaning “the fierce one,” is a handsome tiger who can be spotted roaming the forest of Satpura. He is known for his solitary dominance. Unlike other tigers, Rudra is elusive and can be spotted through camera traps. He has played an important role in maintaining the balance of prey species and establishing tiger presence. His mystery and power have added a mythical charm to Satpura’s jungle.

4/6

Collarwali, Pench (Madhya Pradesh)

Collarwali (T-15), also known as the ‘Supermom of Pench’ is one of the most celebrated tigresses in India who birthed 29 cubs in her lifetime. And that’s why the sobreque! She is one of the major reasons for an incredible tiger repopulation in the park. Collarwali soon became a reason for research and a beloved figure.

5/6

Machli, Ranthambhore (Rajasthan)

Machli (T-16), also known as the "Queen of Ranthambhore," remains one of the most iconic tigers in India. She was a gorgeous tigress who lived for around 19 years. The beauty is also famous for fearless nature and once fought and killed a crocodile. Her popularity boosted tourism in Ranthambhore National Park. She also left behind a powerful legacy through her offspring, including the equally famous Arrowhead and Riddhi.

6/6

Ustad, Ranthambore (Rajasthan)

Ustad (T-24) was known as the ‘Controversial King of Ranthambhore’. He was among the most powerful male tigers in Ranthambore. During his lifetime, Ustad ruled a prime territory and was often seen patrolling fearlessly along tourist routes. But his existence became controversial as he was blamed for several human fatalities. He was relocated to a zoo enclosure in 2015 and died there in his old age.
