Karnataka–Goa border beaches: 5 unique beaches beyond the usual Goa buzz

Karnataka-Goa Border is an unexplored region which is brimming with some stunning, virgin beaches waiting to be explored. This is the border where Karnataka’s hilly coast brushes the quieter green of South Goa. It’s here that you’ll find a row of beaches that feel off-grid. Each and every beach here has its own personality and pace and that’s what sets them apart from your usual buzzing with crowd beaches of Goa or Karnataka.
If you are interested in exploring shorelines with stories and silence, these five make a perfect border-hugging trail.

2/6

Galgibaga (Turtle) Beach, South Goa

Galgibaga is quite famous among turtle lovers as this is the beach famed as a protected nesting ground for Olive Ridley sea turtles. Between November and April, you’ll find pits marked to keep distance from and lights are not allowed at nights. It is important to follow guidelines. It is among the best beaches to visit in South Goa.

3/6

Talpona Beach & Estuary, South Goa

Talpona is the perfect beach for lazy people! This is the place where the river meets the sea and you can just lie on the sands and keep admiring this view forever! The views are so calming and serene! Talpona is the kind of place where time is no hurry to pass a quiet hamlet, sandy arcs, a bridge over the river, and a horizon that seems so alive! Carry your binoculars for kingfishers and egrets. Plan a trip between November and March.

4/6

Polem Beach, South Goa

Polem Beach is literally the last curve of Goa! This is the southernmost beach and the point where Goa’s golden ribbon passes the coastline over to Karnataka. Sitting far from Goa’s commercial beaches, Polem is where you can enjoy a contemplative walk and watch fishing boats arrive. So much peace.

5/6

Devbagh Beach, Karwar, Karnataka

Devbagh Beach & Island is another border gem which is lined with swaying casuarina trees. The beach is a short boat ride from the KodibaghKali River region. When here, you’ll be welcomed by the simple things like empty sands, pine-like trees and sea breeze. But keep your eyes open for dolphin sightings (if you are lucky, you’ll see them).

6/6

Tilmati (Black Sand) Beach, Majali, Karnataka

Tilmati, meaning “black soil”, is a unique, dramatic cove dotted with dark and mineral-rich sand. Reaching the beach is another interesting adventure. It’s a short hike from Majali village and created for daydreamers who love to travel. But make sure you pack light and wear proper shoes. There are no facilities; so carry your bottle of water and light snack.
