U.S. embassy and consulates in India to remain closed on these dates; what it means for visa applications

Routine consular services at the United States Embassy and its consulates across India will remain unavailable for three consecutive days beginning Wednesday, December 24, 2025, the U.S. Embassy in India announced on their official website. The heads of executive departments and agencies may determine that certain offices and installations of their organizations, or parts thereof, must remain open and that certain employees must report for duty on December 24, 2025, or December 26, 2025, or both, for reasons of national security, defense, or other public need.” As per the order, the federal employees will be excused from duty on these days. The directive applies across the US government’s administrative structure, including overseas diplomatic missions such as embassies and consulates.But this temporary closure does not mean everything will be off limits.
