Be it massive book fairs and performances of the Ramayana, or patriotic shows and Craft Bazaars, January is indeed a wonderful month to be in a city like Delhi that has so much to offer to the tourist, the cultural connoisseur, and the citizen looking to explore their capital once again. Here are 5 best events travellers shouldn’t miss.

New Delhi World Book Fair — January 10–18, 2026

Where: Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan
What is it: The New Delhi World Book Fair returns to the capital with one of its biggest editions yet. Organised by the National Book Trust under the Ministry of Education, this nine-day literary festival is one of the world’s largest B2C book fairs. It runs daily from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM and offers free entry for visitors. The fair features 3000+ stalls featuring books from around India and abroad, participation by 30+ countries and over 1,000 publishers, a special Children’s Pavilion with storytelling sessions and interactive sessions, and a themed focus on Indian Military History – Valour and Wisdom@75. This book fair is perfect for all ages.

Republic Day Celebrations — January 26, 2026

Where: Kartavya Path, New Delhi
What is it: Republic Day is one of India’s most iconic national celebrations, and Delhi hosts the country’s flagship parade each year on January 26.What to expect this year? Travellers can expect to see a grand parade showcasing military contingents, cultural tableaux from states and union territories, and displays of India’s diverse traditions. The Beating Retreat Ceremony is scheduled for January 29. While tickets sales for the Full Dress Rehearsal, the Republic Day parade, and the Beating Retreat Ceremony have begun, and will go on till January 14 (Wednesday).

Ramayan Mela — January 14–20, 2026

Where: Pocket-52, DDA Park, C.R.Park
What is it: It is a major cultural event in the city’s January line-up that travelling can plan for. The Ramayana Mela, as per the official listings, runs from January 14 to 20, usually between 11:00 AM and 6:00 PM daily, and entry is free. This immersive festival celebrates the Ramayana epic through Ramleela stage performances which brings episodes from the classic to life. The mela is also a great place to immerse yourself in the engaging storytelling sessions, puppetry and cultural demonstrations. Also check out Ramayana Bazaar, workshops, and handicraft exhibitions.

Dastkari Haat Crafts Bazaar — January 1–15, 2026

Where: Dilli Haat, INA
What is it: This is a much-loved and awaited winter tradition in Delhi. The Dastkari Haat Crafts Bazaar showcases India’s craft and handloom heritage. It runs from January 1 to 15, and brings together artisans from across the country under one roof. At the crafts’ bazaar, one can check out traditional crafts including textiles, pottery, jewellery, bamboo and metalwork. There are also several live craft demonstrations and folk art displays for discerning visitors.Make sure you stop at the regional cuisine stalls that complement the cultural atmosphere. There are plenty of souvenirs you can pick.

Baansera Kite & Culture Festival — January 16–18, 2026

Where: Baansera Park, New Delhi
What is it: It’s a three-day kite festival which will take place at Baansera from January 16–18.The festival is a blend of cultural celebration with learning about heritage. The event is based on kite flying and its significance, historical background related to India and other parts of the world. There are various displays regarding the chronological developments in kite flying, from ancient times in warfare and communication to being a sport in the modern-day world. Who knew kite flying had so much to it? There's going to be folk performances, too, along with food stalls and interactive kite-flying zones
