Why are wildlife enthusiasts heading to Jim Corbett National Park in April?

Wildlife enthusiasts, nature photographers, and nature lovers are looking forward to making trips in April, and there's a good reason for it. Being the oldest national park of India, Jim Corbett National Park takes an entirely different form once the early summer season begins. The dense forest becomes thin, water bodies start reducing, and the animals in the jungle come into sight.
April is a perfect time for those who wish to explore the untamed wilderness of nature. For those who want to see the park at its best, the park will present a great opportunity in April when animal activities reach their peak, while visibility is high. Starting from the Bengal tigers that roam close to rivers to various species of migratory birds that make Corbett their home for some time, the park will become a true spectacle of nature.
These are five reasons that make Jim Corbett National Park a popular choice among wildlife enthusiasts in April.

2/6

Wildlife congregates around shrinking water sources

The month of April ushers in the dry season in Corbett, marking an essential behavioral change among the animals. Since the small streams and water puddles dry up, the larger perennial rivers such as the Ramganga and water holes in the forests offer much-needed relief to the animals in Corbett. The resultant dearth of water offers an opportunity to visitors. As opposed to the usual scenario where animals occupy large parts of the forest, now all the animals, whether they be spotted deer, wild boar, elephants, or even predators, gather at the few remaining water spots.

3/6

Thinning vegetation dramatically improves visibility

During winter and the monsoon, the dense foliage in Corbett makes wildlife sightings challenging. By April, however, the forest begins to thin out as leaves dry and fall with the onset of the dry season in its deciduous zones. This change brings clear advantages for safaris. Visibility improves significantly, allowing visitors to see deeper into the forest, and well-camouflaged animals like tigers and leopards become comparatively easier to spot.

4/6

Peak predator activity, especially tigers

April is considered one of the best months to sight the legendary animal at Corbett National Park. As the temperatures increase, the tiger becomes more active during the dawn and dusk hours. With their need for water, territorial prowls, and even breeding behavior, tigers have been known to move around within their safari grounds. During winter, animals tend to hide due to cold weather; however, the warmer April environment allows animals to exhibit more active behavior.

5/6

A paradise for birdwatchers

Although Corbett Park is famed all around the world for its large felines, it is no less famous when it comes to avian variety. The number of birds at the park exceeds 650 species, and the month of April brings out the best in the park’s avian fauna. At this time of the year, the local birds start their mating season, thus getting into the active breeding phase. April makes spotting the birds relatively easy due to their striking colors and increased activity level.

6/6

Fewer tourists, more authentic jungle experiences

Although April is endowed with several benefits, it is still a little bit overshadowed when compared to other cold weather periods such as December and January. This gives an upper hand to people who plan on visiting at this time. With lower numbers of visitors, the roads used for safaris are less congested, making the experience more enjoyable and stress-free.
