CHENNAI:
Chennai Super Kings' South African allrounders
Albie Morkel and
Chris Morris are set to miss the two-time champions' season opener against
Mumbai Indians on April 6 due to domestic commitments.
Morris, who plays for Highveld Lions, is certain to miss the first game and is expected in India only on April 9, a couple of days after the South African domestic T20 final. With CSK's second match scheduled for April 10, he is unlikely to be part of the playing XI in that game as well.
Albie, on the other hand, could yet make the CSK squad in time for the first game provided his side — Nashua Titans — lose their April 3 semifinal to the Warriors. However, if Titans make the final, then Albie is also expected in Chennai only on April 9.
CSK manager Russell Radhakrishnan said, "Since Chris Morris' side is in the final, the earliest he can fly out is the 8th and reach here on the 9th, so he will not be part of the side for the first game. Albie's side has a semifinal on 3rd and if they don't make the final he will be with us on the 5th. In that case the team will take a decision on whether to play him for the first game."
Albie has been a crucial component of the CSK side.
