Indian man jailed in Singapore for molesting 13-year-old girl

A 52-year-old man from India has been sentenced to 14 months in prison for molesting a 13-year-old girl from a family he knew.

The man, whose identity cannot be revealed due to a gag order protecting the victim's identity, admitted to the molestation charge, according to The Straits Times.

"For molesting a child below 14 years old, an offender can be jailed for up to five years, fined, caned, or receive any combination of such punishments." However, the man cannot be caned because he is over 50 years old.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Suriya Prakash informed the court that the girl had enough trust in the man to accompany him on a motorcycle ride one evening in October 2022.

During this ride, he molested her near a playground in Sembawang, a northern region of Singapore.
