These are the world’s thinnest residential buildings: Thin but iconic

The world has seen a number of remarkable innovations in the field of architecture. Some buildings are known for being tall, some for unique architecture and then there are the thinnest buildings where people actually love! And by thin, we mean super thin. From Poland to Japan, architects across the globe have answered two questions: How small can a home be? and how narrow can a building be for livable conditions? Therefore these buildings have become globally famous for pushing the limits of design creativity and showing space efficiency.

These buildings are extraordinary and are a living example of how residential design can keep changing. It depends on the factors such as:

Urban density where maximizing living space in scarce land.

Historical parceling where unique architectural designs are created.

Creative engineering

All these buildings hold some global records. On this note, here we have five of the most stunning and bewildering thinnest or narrowest residential buildings:

Keret House — Warsaw, Poland (0.92–1.52 m wide)

Keret House, an architectural landmark, is known as the “Narrowest Residential Building in the World”. By narrow we mean only 92 cm (3.0 ft) wide! Wow, now that’s something. The building is tucked between two structures in central Warsaw and designed by Polish architect Jakub Szczęsny. This 2012 building has a total floor area of about 14 m² (151 ft²) only. But once you get inside, you’ll be shocked to see a sleeping area, kitchenette and bathroom. The building was commissioned by Israeli writer Etgar Keret. However, it doesn’t fit Warsaw’s minimal building code dimensions; it's officially classified as an art installation.

Sankaku Biru (Triangle Building) — Tokyo, Japan (<2 ft at narrowest)

Sankaku Biru or the Triangle Building is next on the list. Situated in Tokyo’s Nerima ward, this is another remarkable architectural feat. Reports say that the building measures less than 2 ft. What makes this extraordinary is the fact that the building boasts several full-floor apartment units stacked vertically across five stories. Each unit has a kitchenette, bathroom, and compact living space.

La Estrecha — Valencia, Spain (1.07 m façade)

La Estrecha in Valencia, Spain is on the third spot on the list. The building is often called “the narrow one” in Europe. Its front measures only about 1.07 m (42 in) wide. Originally an independent family home. The building’s beauty is in its slender form on Plaza Lope de Vega. Simply stunning!

Thin House — London, England (1.8 m wide)

The list won’t be complete without the mention of London’s Thin House (or Five Thurloe Square). It is another narrow residential building in the world built during the late 19th century. The building measures only about 6 ft (1.8 m) at its narrowest. It was originally built as an artist studio. Today Thin House is very famous.
