5 relationship lessons to learn from Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan

Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan are the cornerstone of Bollywood love. Two actors with completely different personalities falling for each other and lasting years of marriage with kids and careers seems like a fancy dream. But these two have transformed it into a fairytale reality that has most wondering if it is truly possible to have it all. But just like any classic love story, Kareena and Saif's journey did not cruise through without any hiccups. From age gap to divorces and religion, they had to deal with it all to be able to stand tall on the victory line holding each other's hands. For the modern-day couple, who also deal with societal concepts such as these, they serve as an example.

The love story

Kareena and Saif are said to have sparked a romance on the sets of their film Tashan in 2008. In a Koffee with Karan episode, Kareena even remembered the moment she fell for her husband. She recalled it was when she saw him sitting topless on the top of a makeup van in Ladakh. "I was like, who is that guy who is sitting on top of a vanity van?" she said. It was that moment she said she lost her heart and the rest was it. A year later, they revealed their relationship to the public and tied the knot on October 16, 2012. Now, the couple has two sons, Taimur and Jeh. Here are 5 relationship lessons to learn from Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan:

3/7

There's no such thing as gender roles

In an interview with Kareena, Saif Ali Khan once said that there is no such thing as gender roles. "As long as the house is running decently and the kids are being nourished in a loving environment, it doesn't matter who does what or how it's done," he said. Whether you are in a marriage or a relationship it is important to respect your partner's life and adjust to each other's priorities accordingly. There can be some things that they take the lead in while there can be others that you add value to.

Age-gap relationships are successful too

While the Indian society has overcome many a taboo over time, there is one it seems to cling to, an age gap between a couple. Saif Ali Khan is 10 years older than Kareena. When the rumours of the couple's relationship and subsequently their marriage, went viral people raised many questions about their age gap. "When has age ever mattered, he is hotter than ever. I am happy I am 10 years younger, he should be worried. No one would say he has turned 53. Age does not matter, what matters is respect and love and the fact that we have fun with each other," said Kareena in an interview with a media outlet.

5/7

Interfaith marriages are beautiful

Kareena hails from the Kapoor household, a famous Bollywood family known to celebrate all their festivals with large gatherings of people and food. Saif on the other hand was brought up practising Islam and continues to do so. The couple is often seen celebrating Hindu and Muslim festivals together with joyous events and being interfaith seems to have added to their lives some more occasions to be happy. "“We spend so much time discussing interfaith (relationships). So much energy, so much that they are 10 years apart. The important thing is to have fun. The most important thing between Saif and me is that we like each other and enjoy each other's company. How should it matter what faith he follows or what his age is that isn’t even a point of discussion.”

6/7

Blended families are just more fun

Before tying the knot with Kareena, Saif was married to actress Amrita Singh from 1991 to 2004. The couple shares two children Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan. Both Sara and Ibrahim were in attendance during Saif and Kareena's wedding and have been a part of the family's life and events actively. "I have two very comfortable homes as opposed to one comfortable home, and I think I really win," said Sara at Koffee with Karan in 2018. From birthdays to movie successes, you can spot the entire Kapoor Khan clan together, always.

7/7

You do you

From Saif getting Kareena's name tattooed on his arm to Kareena openly fangirling over how hot her husband is, the couple's love for each other has remained consistent over the years. They take no judgments and welcome all praise while focusing on what truly matters, which is their love and bond. In an interview with Kareena, Saif once said that it is important for partners to have different interests so as to keep the spark alive and with their eccentric personalities they are managing to do it well. They go on holidays, appear at school functions and pursue their art with no space for the outside noise because what's louder than ever is their happiness.
