Ram Navami is oe of the most significant Hindu festivals, which is dedicated to Lord Shri Ram. On this sacred day, the birth anniversary of Lord Ram is celebrated across the country. People celebrate this with great enthusiasm and fervor. The day is celebrated as Ram Janmotsav. According to Panchang, Ram Janmotsav is celebrated on Navami tithi of shukla paksha in the month of Chaitra. According to Gregorian calendar, this year, Ram Navami is being celebrated on March 26, 2026.
Ram Navami is the most prominent Hindu festival that is celebrated across the country with great grandeur and happiness. This was the most sacred day, when Lord Shri Ram manifested in the form of a human. The whole country celebrates the birth anniversary of Lord Rama. He was born to Ayodhya king Dhashrath and his queen Kaushalya as an eldest son. Lord Ram is the embodiment of righteousness, bravery, courage and truth. All the devotees of Lord Shri Ram offer their sincere prayers to him and celebrate this day by performing various religious and spiritual activities to seek blessings of the Lord. Shri Ram is the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu, who appeared in Treta Yuga to kill Ravana and established righteousness on earth.
This festival is celebrated with great pomp and show across the country. Devotees organise Ramacharitmanas path in home and temples and they get involved in doing bhajan and kirtan. A large number of devotees visit Ayidhya city to have a glimpse of Ram Lala in Ram Mandir. Ayodhya (Uttar Pradesh) is the birth place of Lord Shri Ram. Devotees visit the Saryu river for the holy bath and then they visit Ram Mandir to take part in the birthday celebration. The temple will be decorated with flowers, light and diya. The whole Ayodhya city will be decorated with lights and diyas. This is going to be a memorable moment for the devotees to celebrate the birth anniversary of Lord Ram like this.
According to the Hindu Scriptures, King Dashrath had three wives but he was childless so he organised a Putra Prapti (to get sons) Ashwamegha Yagya suggesting by his Guru, Maharishi Vashishtha. After completing the yagya, queens were given the kheer as a prasad and they consumed the blessed bhog prasad. Soon, they become pregnant and gave birth to four sons - Ram, Lakshman, Bharat, Shatrughan. Sumitra gave birth to Shatrughan and Lakshman, Kaikayi gave birth to Bharat and Kaushalya, the eldeest queen gave birth to Rama on the ninth day of shukla paksha in the month of Chaitra month. Since the, the birth anniversary of Shri Ram is celebrated across the country with great enthusiasm by all the Hindu devotees.
1. Devotees wake up early in the morning and take a holy bath.
2. They clean the home and puja room.
3. After completing the basic cleaning, they wear nice clean clothes.
4. Take a wooden plank and place an idol of Lord Ram or Ram Darbar.
5. Light a diya in front of the idol or photo and adorn the idol and apply tilak and offer homemade sweets.
6. Kanya pujan will also celebrated on the same day so people prepare food - halwa, poori and chana.
7. Invite small girls at home and feed them with food and give them gifts.
8. Some people distribute the food to the needy girls.
9. People organise hawan, Ramayana path on this holy day.
10. They spend their day in performing various religious and spiritual activities to seek blessings of Goddess Durga and Shri Ram.
