This means that turmeric and kumkum are essential elements in the worship process. Turmeric is believed to complete and enhance the puja, while kumkum (vermillion powder) is considered a symbol of purity and sanctity.
According to Celebrity Astrologer Parduman Suri, applying turmeric tilak (mark) on the forehead during worship helps balance and control the body’s energy centers or chakras. Turmeric is also considered to bring prosperity and good fortune, which is why it is applied on the bride and groom before marriage, with the intention of bringing good luck into their married life. It is believed that turmeric protects newlywed couples from the evil eye. Without kumkum, a married woman’s adornment is considered incomplete.
