Kartik Purnima 2022: Purnima holds an immense religious and spiritual significance and this time Purnima is going to be observed on Shukla Paksha during Kartik Month and Kartik month is purely dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Purnima in the month of Kartik is considered to be one of the most pious Purnimas in a year. This year, Kartik Purnima is being observed today, on November 8, 2022.

Kartik Purnima 2022: Significance
According to the Hindi scriptures, it is believed that on this day auspicious day, Lord Shiva killed the demon, Tripurasura and that is why this Purnima is also known as Tripuri Purnima and also Lord Vishnu appeared in the form of Matsya on the eve of Kartik Purnima. People observe Satyanarayan fast on this day but due to Chandra Grahan, this time the fast will be observed on Chaturdashi Tithi. Donation and charity work is considered fruitful so people should donate food and clothes to the needy and poor people. Dev Diwali is also celebrated with great grandeur on this auspicious day of Kartik Purnima. Jain people also celebrate this day as the ‘Jain Festival of Light’. The day of Kartik Purnima marks the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev and is celebrated as Guru Nanak Jayanti or Gurpurab and they too visit their Gurudwara to offer prayers to Guru Nanak ji that is why this day holds a special significance to all.

1. Devotees visit to Ganga Ghats and take a holy bath on the auspicious day of Kartik Purnima.

2. One must worship the six creations named - Shiva, Santati, Priti, Anusuiya and Kshama during moonrise.

3. This year, Chandra Grahan will occur on the day of Kartik Purnima so people are advised to do charity on this day.

4. People must chant Mantras and read holy book like - Bhagwad Geeta and Ramayana or any other holy book..

5. Devotees perform the fast and organise Hawan (Yajna) on this Purnima and feed the needy and poor people on this day.

6. As there will be Chandra Grahan on this Kartik Purnima so the fast will not observed on this day but people are advised to take holy dip in Ganga river after the Grahan is over.

7. People light the earthen diyas (Deep Daan) near Ganga river.

8. Eating non vegetarian food and consumption of alcohol are strictly prohibited on this day.

9. In the evening, people must offer Arghya to the Moon.
