NEW DELHI: India's Narwal brothers, Manish and Shiva, have etched their names in the annals of Indian sports history with their remarkable shooting skills and unwavering determination.
Manish Narwal, who previously clinched a gold medal in the Air 10m Pistol SH1 event at the Para Shooting World Championships 2022, served as an inspiration to his younger brother, Shiva Narwal. Encouraged by Manish's success, Shiva embarked on his own journey, and it culminated in a gold medal victory for India in the 10m Air Pistol men’s team event at the Asian Games 2023.
Manish's exceptional performance at the Para Shooting World Championships not only earned him a gold medal but also secured a quota spot for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, further elevating the Narwal family's status in the world of shooting.
Continuing the tradition of excellence, Shiva Narwal showcased his exceptional shooting prowess, clinching the gold medal at the prestigious Asian Games 2023. His victory in the individual 10m Air Pistol team event was characterized by unwavering nerves and pinpoint accuracy.
Teaming up with Sarabjot Singh and Arjun Singh Cheema, Shiva Narwal contributed to India's gold in the Men's 10m Air Pistol Team event at the Hangzhou Asian Games. India's team secured the gold, finishing one point ahead of the silver medalists, China. This marked India's fourth gold medal in shooting and the sixth overall at the ongoing Asian Games.
Shiva's ascent in the world of shooting began earlier, with gold medals in the 2020 and 2021 editions of the Khelo India Youth Games. Despite his youth, the 17-year-old shooter made his senior debut at the Egypt World Championships last year. Notably, he came close to securing the Paris Olympic Quota when he reached the finals of the 10m Air Pistol event, ultimately finishing in 8th place.
The Narwal brothers have not only made their family proud but have also contributed significantly to India's medal tally at the Asian Games, further highlighting the country's growing prominence in the sport of shooting.
