Looking forward to playing with the best: Avani Prashanth

BENGALURU: Teen sensation Avani Prashanth, the lone amateur in the Indian golf team at the Asian Games, felt her game was in a good place on the eve of the golf competition beginning at the West Lake International Golf Course on Thursday.


The 16-year-old, who became the first Indian to win an event on the Ladies European Tour Access Series recently, said she was looking forward to playing against the best in the business. "I am just excited to see how I fare amongst the best. I think the world No. 1 is coming as well. So, it will be fun to see how I play against them," said Avani, one of the longest hitters in the women's game.

Avani, winner of the prestigious Queen Sirikit Cup in Manila in February, however, is not getting ahead of herself. "I know If I play my A-game I can definitely pull off something really good," said the teenager.

"Team-wise I think we are one of the best teams that India has ever sent. We've a good chance for a team medal, I can say that for sure," she added quickly. Avani, who is planning to play the LET Qualifying School in December, has missed just one cut in eight starts in international pro events. The Bengalurean booked her spot on the Asiad team through the Indian Golf Union trials.
