A defeat in the final round cost Vidit Gujrathi a medal as Indian chess players failed to finish on the podium in the individual events of the Asian Games on Wednesday. Grandmasters Gujrathi (5.5 points) and Arjun Erigaisi (5.5) finished fifth and sixth respectively while former bronze medallist D Harika (6 points) took fourth place and 2006 champion Koneru Humpy ended seventh.

India's G Sathiyan and Manika Batra put on an impressive performance, securing their spot in the mixed doubles pre-quarterfinals in the table tennis competition at the Asian Games in Hangzhou on Wednesday. Subsequently, Harmeet Desai joined forces with Sreeja Akula to secure a victory over Macau's Chi Cheng Cheong and Hui Li Seak with a scoreline of 12-10, 11-7, 11-7, advancing to the last 16 stage.

India's Hriday Vipul Chheda, Anush Agarwalla and Divyakriti Singh continued their fine show and moved into medal contention after qualifying for the individual dressage final of equestrian at the Asian Games on Wednesday. Astride his horse Chemxpro, Hriday topped the qualification round with total score of 73.883, while Anush, riding Etro, finished fourth with score of 71.706.
