. Both the 15-year-old prodigies emerged champions in all the events they participated in the
Baidyanath Nagpur District Badminton Championship
which concluded at the Subhedar Hall on Tuesday.
Continuing her impressive run in the district
badminton circuit Nikkita triumphed in all the four events, Devesh claimed three titles on a day when
Nabeel Ahmed
was crowned as the district men's champion winning both the singles and doubles open crown.
On yet another hot day when the city crossed the 42 degree Celsius mark 13 finals were played with Nikkita and Devesh keeping their cool to hog the limelight.
Nikkita emerged champion in the U-19 and U-17 singles while partnered with
Aasavari Khandekar
to claim the doubles crown in both the U-17 and U-15 events respectively. Of the 30 games she played in the championship, Nikkita lost just a game each in the singles and doubles event.
Devesh, however, was at his dominant best when the top seed claimed both the U-15 and U-17 singles crown without losing a single game. Of the 10 contests he played in both his singles event, Devesh registered victories in all the 20 games. Later he partnered with
Shashank Kulal
in the U-17 doubles event and registered a hard fought triumph over the second seeded pair of
Arav Fernandez
and
Sanvik Chaudhari
21-23, 21-16, 21-16.
