NEW DELHI: Reigning champions India advanced to the knockout phase of the Thomas Cup after a commanding 5-0 victory over England in their Group C match on Monday. Following their 4-1 triumph against Thailand in the opening tie, India secured a second straight win to progress to the quarterfinals.
HS Prannoy returned to his winning ways, defeating Harry Huang 21-15 21-15 to give India a 1-0 lead. After his match, Prannoy emphasized the importance of providing a strong start for the team and finishing matches decisively, citing the loss of one match against Thailand as an example of the need for clinical performances.
The renowned duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty faced a tough challenge from Ben Lane and Sean Vendy in the first doubles fixture. However, the 2022 World Championships bronze medalists emerged victorious with a 21-17 19-21 21-15 win in a gruelling one hour and five minutes.
Former world number one Kidambi Srikanth secured a 21-16 21-11 victory over Nadeem Dalvi, giving India an unbeatable 3-0 lead.
