NEW DELHI: Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand advanced to the second round of the women's doubles event at the Malaysia Masters Super 500 tournament on Tuesday. The seventh-seeded duo, who won a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games, defeated Chinese Taipei's Huang Yu-Hsun and Liang Ting Yu, ranked 104th, in straight games with a score of 21-14 21-10 in the round of 32.

Four Indian players participated in the men's singles qualification round, but none of them managed to qualify for the main draw. Sathish Kumar Karunakaran, the recent winner of the BWF Super 100 title at the Odisha Masters, started strong by defeating Malaysia's Cheam June Wei 21-15 21-19 but later lost to Indonesia's Shesar Hiren Rhustavito 21-13 20-22 13-21.

Ayush Shetty, a World Junior Championships bronze medallist, overcame fellow Indian Kartikey Gulshan Kumar 21-7 21-14 in the first round but was eliminated by Thailand's Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul 21-23 21-16 17-21. S Sankar Subramanian, a former silver medallist at the World Junior Championships, lost to Rhustavito 12-21 17-21 in the opening round of qualification.

In the women's singles qualifiers, Tanya Hemanth was defeated by Lin Sih Yun of Chinese Taipei 21-23 8-21. Palak Arora and Unnati Hooda, competing in the women's doubles, were also eliminated from the tournament after losing to Chinese Taipei's Hsu Yin-Hui and Lin Jhij Yun 10-21 5-21.
