Rasika Raje
got off to a winning start in the Yonex-Sunrise All India Senior Ranking
Badminton tournament at the Sports Stadium Moden Town in Bareilly on Thursday.
Fifth seed Vaishnavi thumped Diksha Choudhary 21-12, 21-13 in just twenty minutes. Vaishnavi, who represents Railways, will meet Samayara Panwar in the women’s singles second round on Friday.
Sixteenth seed Rasika made the short work of K Vaishnavi 21-12, 21-12 in 32 minutes. The southpaw, employee of RBI, will lock horns with
Radhika Sharma
on Friday.
Mugdha Agrey defeated Nupur Wadhwa in straight games to start her campaign on a rousing note. In-form Mugdha will lock horns with Khushi Gupta in the second round.
Qualifier
Shruti Chokhandre
went down against sixth seed Anura Prabhudesai 11-21, 10-21. In the first qualifier, Shruti outclassed Aparna Datt 15-10, 15-8, while in the second and final qualifier she ousted A Akshaya 16-14, 15-8 to enter the main draw.
In the mixed doubles, Dingku Singh Konthoujam (Manipur) and
Ritika Thaker
edged past
Vedant Sharma
and Yukta Dave 15-10, 12-15, 15-7 in the qualifier to make the cut for the main draw. The pair of Ritika and Dignku will face Mauryan K and Balashri K.
In the women’s doubles, second seeds Ritika Thaker and
Simran Singhi
will clash with Akshaya Arumugam and R Arulbala on Friday.
Another city pair of Vaishnavi Bhale and Rasika Raje will square off against Rageshri Garg and Divyanshi Sharma.
After winning three matches, Gandhar Nawale lost to eleventh seed Vishal Vasudevan 13-15, 12-15 in the final qualifying round of the men’s singles.
