They suffered a straight-game defeat against Muhammad Shohibul Fikri and Bagas Maulana of Indonesia. The Indian pair, who clinched the French Open title last week, couldn't maintain their form against the Indonesian opponents, losing 16-21, 15-21 in just over an hour.

Also, Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa were ousted in the women's doubles round of 16, succumbing to a 21-11, 11-21, 11-21 defeat against Zhang Shu Xian and Zheng Yu of China.

In the men's singles quarterfinals later on Friday, India's Lakshya Sen is set to face Malaysia's Lee Zii Jia, the 2021 champion. Sen earned his spot in the quarterfinals with a remarkable victory over world No. 3 Anders Antonsen, winning 24-22, 11-21, 21-14.

However, double Olympic medalist PV Sindhu's journey came to an end as she suffered a 19-21, 11-21 defeat against her long-standing rival and world No. 1, An Se Young of South Korea.
