NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday dismissed the interim application filed by boxers Manju Rani, Poonam Poonia and Shiksha Narwal for consideration of their candidature for the IBA women's World Championships, scheduled to be held here from March 15 to 26.

Boxing Federation of India (BFI) counsels, Hrishikesh Baruah and Parth Goswami, had submitted the 'evaluation test' papers filled by the high performance director Bernard Dunne and the chief national coaches CA Kuttappa and Bhaskar Bhatt in the court on Monday.

The counsels for the BFI apprised the single-bench of Justice Pratibha M Singh about the medals won by selected boxers for the Worlds, namely Nitu Ghanghas, Preeti and Jasmine Lamboria at the international and national level.

The court, satisfied with the selection, dismissed the interim application for the petitioners and directed that the selected 12-member team can go ahead and participate at the Worlds starting on Wednesday.

The court directed the BFI to keep the names of Manju, Poonam and Shiksha as 'reserves' for the Worlds.

The three boxers had approached the court, challenging their non-selection in the team for the biennial event, which is being hosted by India for a record third time -- the previous occasions being 2006 and 2018.

In Manju's weight category, Birmingham CWG gold medallist Nitu was selected while Preeti had made the cut ahead of Shiksha. Similarly, in Poonam's weight division, Birmingham CWG bronze winner Jaismine had been picked.
