LUCKNOW:
Ian Bishop, former
West Indies
cricketer who played between 1988 and 1998, underwent a
knee surgery
at a private hospital in the city on Saturday.
An official statement from the hospital said that Bishop was suffering with a condition called lateral patellar impingement syndrome (an orthopaedic problem in which the round bone of the knee collides with the femur causing pain) along with an osteochondrol defect (marked by damage to the cartilage that lines the end of the bones).
"The patient suffered with an injury in December 2017 and had been suffering with the two orthopaedic problems. He complained of pain in the knee which trickled downwards on walking for ten minutes. His physical activity was also restricted because of the troubled knee," informed Dr Sandeep Gupta performed the surgical procedure with Dr Madhuresh Kumar.
Dr Gupta stated that Bishop came to the private hospital to get an MRI test done during his recent visit to the city for the West Indies versus Afghanistan
cricket
match. "The problem was diagnosed and the surgery was planned. We conducted a key-hole arthroscopic procedure," he said.
Admitted on Saturday morning, Bishop was discharged by the evening. The surgical procedure lasted for about an hour after which he was allowed to rest. Thereafter, he underwent physiotherapy to enable him walk. After a vital check, the patient was allowed to leave with a list of medicines and do's and don'ts.
