Joe Root pulled off a great escape as he survived a dream delivery from Australian pacer
James Pattinson early in his innings on Day 2 of the first Ashes Test in Birmingham on Friday.
The bizarre incident, took place in the 21st over of England’s first innings when Root, who was batting at 9, got a cracker of a delivery from Pattinson that beat him all ends up.
Umpire Joel Wilson adjudged Root out caught behind after which the England skipper straight away went for the review.
The mystery unfolded when replays from various angles showed that the ball kissed the top of off stump and not the edge of Joe Root’s bat.
What was more baffling for the Australians was that even after hitting the stump the bail didn't go off.
