Bangladesh made two changes to their side, with Khaled Ahmed and Taijul Islam replacing Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana. The start of play was delayed due to a wet outfield.

In the initial stages, openers Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam faced bounce and seam movement cautiously. Shadman Islam scored 24 runs, while Zakir Hasan struggled and was eventually out for zero. Deep, who came in as a second change, took Hasan's wicket by inducing an edge caught by Yashasvi Jaiswal.

A timely delivery from Deep dismissed Islam by trapping him in front of the wicket. Islam challenged the decision through a review, but the umpires upheld their call.

On the other hand, Shanto demonstrated confidence with two early boundaries, signaling his intent not to be daunted by the accomplished Indian bowlers. He managed to score another boundary off Siraj, although his shots were not entirely clean.

Shanto's reverse sweep against off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was particularly noteworthy. As lunch commenced, a light drizzle led to the covers being brought back onto the field.

India had previously won the first Test in Chennai by 280 runs.
