Bangladesh made two changes to their side, with Khaled Ahmed and Taijul Islam replacing Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana. The start of play was delayed due to a wet outfield.
In the initial stages, openers Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam faced bounce and seam movement cautiously. Shadman Islam scored 24 runs, while Zakir Hasan struggled and was eventually out for zero. Deep, who came in as a second change, took Hasan's wicket by inducing an edge caught by Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Shanto's reverse sweep against off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was particularly noteworthy. As lunch commenced, a light drizzle led to the covers being brought back onto the field.
