DC vs LSG highlights, IPL 2025: Impact sub Ashutosh Sharma played the most defining knock of his IPL career to guide Delhi Capitals to a thrilling one wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants here on Monday. Ashutosh smashed 66 not out off 31 balls and finished it with a huge six off Shahbaz Ahmed as DC chased down a target of 210 with three balls to spare. The right-hander hit five fours and five sixes in all.

DC were 7 for 3 at one stage and then 113 for 6 but Ashutosh and unheralded Vipraj Nigam (39 off 15 balls) added 55 runs in quick time before the Railways man finished it off in style despite wickets falling at the other end.

LSG were 20 short during batting and paid the price for not having any of their frontline pacers on the park due to injury. It didn't help that Ravi Bishnoi was hit for 53 runs.

Earlier, Delhi Capitals bowlers did well at the back-end to restrict Lucknow Super Giants to 209 for 8 on a batting paradise, despite attractive fifties from Mitchell Marsh (72) and Nicholas Pooran (75).

Kuldeep Yadav was easily the most impactful bowler with figures of 2 for 20 while Mitchell Starc used his variations to end with best figures 3 for 42 in four overs.

The much-anticipated debut of KL Rahul for his new franchise turned into disappointment for fans as he was absent from Delhi Capitals' playing XI in their opening IPL 2025 match against Lucknow Super Giants at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Monday.

Delhi Capitals skipper Axar Patel won the toss and opted to field against Rishabh Pant-led Lucknow Super Giants.

"We are going to bowl first. It's the dew factor, we don't want to take any risk, that's why we are bowling first. I have played with Pant before, he knows me and I know him. We know our tricks. I have played a lot for the Capitals, we have a well-balanced side," Axar said at the toss.

"There's dew sometimes, not always. I have been with DC since three years, I have been with the leadership group. I need to work accordingly. Need to think like a leader. Faf du Plessis, Stubbs, Starc and Fraser McGurk are our four overseas," he added.

Although Axar did not mention KL Rahul’s absence, reports suggest that Rahul missed the game due to personal reasons.

The Indian batter, who is expecting his first child, was granted special permission by Delhi Capitals' management to skip the match against his former franchise LSG.

Rahul reportedly rushed back to Mumbai on Sunday night after learning that his wife, Athiya Shetty, could give birth at any moment.

However, he is expected to rejoin the squad for Delhi Capitals' second game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 30.

The BCCI on Thursday lifted the ban on the use of saliva on the ball in the upcoming IPL after majority of captains agreed to the proposal, making it the first major cricket competition to do away with the restriction that was a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The decision was taken at the captains' meeting in Mumbai ahead of the league which started on Saturday.

Axar welcomed the move, saying that it will to some extent create a balance between the bat and the ball.

"IPL is all about batsmen's game, so the usage of saliva is great for the bowlers and the game as well. Also the dew factor is there so after 11 overs we can get a fresh ball it can reverse...good rules," he said.

DC vs LSG Live Score, IPL 2025: LSG sign Shardul Thakur

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have named India allrounder Shardul Thakur as a replacement for left-arm fast bowler Mohsin Khan, who has been ruled out of the IPL 2025 due to injury.

Sahrdul, who went unsold at the mega auction last year, has played 95 games in the IPL for five franchises - Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Delhi Capitals (DC), Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings, PBKS), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rising Pune Supergiant (defuct) - and has 67 wickets to his name with an economy rate of 8.89.

"Thakur, an experienced all-rounder, has been signed from the Registered Available Player Pool (RAPP) at his reserve price of Rs 2 crore. A proven performer across all three formats for India, he brings valuable IPL experience, having played 95 matches for five franchises," the IPL statement read.

Mohsin tore the anterior cruciate ligament tear (ACL) on his right knee last December while playing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He did join the LSG pre-season camp, but had sustained a calf strain when he was bowling in the nets, which eventually ruled him out of the tournament.

The 33-year-old Thakur, who went unsold in the auction, had signed a seven-match County Championship deal with Essex for the start of the 2025 season. However, this may no longer proceed as the allrounder is now required to fulfill his IPL duties for LSG.

Thakur, who won the IPL twice with the Chennai franchise in 2018 and 2021, has been with the LSG squad in Visakhapatnam, where LSG will begin their IPL 2025 campaign against the Delhi Capitals on Monday.
