NEW DELHI: Law enforcement authorities in Goa conducted a raid on a rented bungalow in the village of Pilerne, located near the state capital Panaji, on Thursday. The operation was carried out based on credible intelligence received regarding illegal betting activities taking place at the premises.
During the raid, three individuals, identified as Maksud Modan (28), Aasifbhai Jiyaudeenbhai (25), and Rizvan Bhash (20), all hailing from the state of Gujarat, were apprehended by the police.
These individuals were found to be engaged in accepting bets on the Champions Trophy cricket match between India and Bangladesh, which was being played in Dubai.

The authorities seized various items used in facilitating illegal betting activities, including four mobile phones, a laptop, and a router, collectively valued at approximately Rs 1.1 lakh.
The incident highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to crack down on illegal gambling operations, particularly those involving sports betting.
Such activities not only violate existing laws but also raise concerns about potential links to organized crime and money laundering.
It is important to note that the individuals arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The investigation into the matter is likely to continue, and further details may emerge as the legal proceedings unfold.
