NEW DELHI: South Africa international and Joburg Super Kings fast bowler Gerald Coetzee has been ruled out of the ongoing SA20 tournament after sustaining a left hamstring strain.
The 24-year-old speedster last played on January 14 against Durban’s Super Giants and will now undergo further medical assessments and rehabilitation.
The injury marks a significant blow not just Super Kings but also for South Africa’s Champions Trophy 2025 plans. Coetzee, seen as a potential replacement for the injured Anrich Nortje, had recently made a strong comeback from previous injuries.

However, if he fails to recover in time, South Africa will need to explore other options, including promising quicks like Kwena Maphaka, Corbin Bosch, and Ottniel Baartman.
Coetzee's absence adds to concerns over South Africa's fast-bowling reserves.
After returning from a groin injury in October, Coetzee showed promise during the home series against India and in the Test series against Sri Lanka. His ability to hit high speeds and bowl with aggression makes him a valuable asset.
