Pakistan is set to host an ICC event after 29 years, with the opening match between Pakistan and New Zealand scheduled for Wednesday. Security concerns have been significant for international sporting events in Pakistan since the attack on the Sri Lankan team bus in 2009, leading to India's decision not to travel to Pakistan for this event.

Local media reports indicate extensive security measures, with 12,000 police officers and personnel to be deployed during matches in Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi. The security detail includes 18 senior officers, 54 DSPs, 135 inspectors, 1,200 upper subordinates, 10,556 constables, and over 200 female police officers.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has arranged special charter flights through Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) for fans and participating teams. These flights will operate between Karachi, Islamabad, and Lahore to facilitate transportation for players and high-profile guests during the tournament.

As the Champions Trophy begins, cricket enthusiasm has spread across Pakistan, with fans awaiting the tournament opener between Pakistan and New Zealand. Local cricket-related businesses are experiencing increased activity.

The absence of Indian matches in Pakistan has disappointed many locals.

"It is disappointing because generally there is so much admiration for the Indian team and players, especially Virat Kohli, in our country," shopkeeper Moiz Ahmed reportedly said at the famous Zainab Market in the heart of Karachi's bustling Saddar area.

Moiz has noticed a strong demand for Indian team shirts among cricket fans, alongside Pakistan team merchandise.

"Virat Kohli definitely has a big fan following in Pakistan," he said as youngsters mingled in the shop choosing different team shirts.



"He is so down to earth in his behaviour from what we see in the media," said Kashif, a college student, who expressed his admiration for Kohli's playing skills and humility.

The shopkeepers at Zainab market, known for selling both licensed and replica team shirts during major cricket and football events, are welcoming the Champions Trophy being held in Pakistan.
