NEW DELHI: The game of cricket might be at adolescent stage in the USA but their players showed that they can provide stiff competition to more experienced international opponents.
USA player Steven Taylor left everyone stunned with his magnificent piece of fielding during the T20 World Cup match against Pakistan in Dallas on Thursday.
USA pacer Saurabh Netravalkar delivered a well-executed good length delivery that exhibited late away swing. Mohammad Rizwan, caught off guard by the unexpected movement, remained stationary in his crease as the ball found the outside edge of his bat.
The resulting edge seemed to be losing momentum as it approached the solitary slip fielder. However, Taylor showcased his athleticism and reflexes by diving to his right, successfully scooping the ball with one hand just before it could make contact with the ground, completing a remarkable catch.
Earlier, USA won the toss and elected to field against Pakistan in their Group A game at the T20 World Cup.
USA made a winning start to the tournament by beating Canada by seven wickets at the same venue in the opening game of the event, which it is co-hosting with the West Indies.
Aaron Jones smashed 10 sixes in his 40-ball unbeaten knock of 94 in that game and eased the US to the 195-run target with 14 balls to spare.
