The undefeated hosts edged closer to securing a victory that would ensure their place in the semi-finals. Siraj's spell read 2-1-4-3 at the end of four overs.

Facing a daunting target of 358 to win, Sri Lanka encountered a disastrous start to their innings.

The troubles began as Pathum Nissanka was adjudged lbw off the first ball delivered by Jasprit Bumrah, a decision that stood after a Sri Lanka review.

Although Bumrah initially conceded two wides, offering Sri Lanka their first runs, the following over saw Mohammed Siraj dismiss Dimuth Karunaratne, the other opening batsman, also for a duck, trapped lbw.

Sadeera Samarawickrama, coming in at number four, managed to face only four deliveries before edging Siraj to third slip Shreyas Iyer, departing without adding to the score, recording yet another duck.

Sri Lanka's captain, Kusal Mendis, followed suit by being bowled for just one run by Siraj, intensifying Sri Lanka's woes, leaving them at three for four within the initial four overs of their innings.
