After winning the toss, India chose to bowl in damp conditions and their decision paid off immediately.
The bowlers struck early and never allowed New Zealand to recover. RS Ambrish led the attack with excellent figures of 8-1-29-4, while Henil Patel provided strong support with 3 for 23. New Zealand were quickly reduced to 69 for 7, struggling to cope with India’s disciplined bowling.
Snehith Reddy was the only top-order batter to reach double figures with 10. The lower order tried to steady the innings, with Callum Samson scoring 37, Selwin Sanjay adding 28 and Jacob Cotter making 23. However, New Zealand were bowled out for 135 in 36.2 overs, with Khilan Patel, Mohamed Enaan and Kanishk Chouhan also picking up wickets.
Chasing a revised target of 130, India lost Aaron George early but quickly took control through a fluent 76-run partnership between skipper Ayush Mhatre and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. Sooryavanshi struck a brisk 40 off 23 balls, while Mhatre played a stunning knock of 53 off just 27 deliveries, hitting six sixes.
After their dismissals, Vihaan Malhotra and Vedant Trivedi calmly guided India to 130 for 3 in 13.3 overs, sealing a comprehensive win and the top spot in Group B.
